Ailun's Screen Protector: The Bare Minimum, Literally

Post Image

Another Screen Protector? *Sigh*

Look, if you've ever unboxed a gadget, you already know what this is: another sheet of glass that promises to save your phone from your butterfingers. But hey, at least this one's cheap enough that you won't cry when it cracks instead of your screen.

What We Liked πŸ‘

  • Dirt-cheap price tag
  • Actually fits the screen
  • Lens protectors included
  • Installation frame is handy

What Could Be Better πŸ‘Ž

  • 'Night shooting' is marketing fluff
  • Feels like film, not glass
  • Still waiting for drop test

Unboxing Disappointment, Again

The Ailun 3-pack arrived in typical blister-pack fashion, which means I immediately sliced my thumb open trying to open it. Inside: three screen protectors, three lens protectors, and an installation frame that looks like it was designed by someone who's never actually used an iPhone. The instructions are 75% hieroglyphics, but I've installed enough of these to know the drill.

The 'ultra-thin' 0.33mm glass? Feels like that plastic wrap you peel off new gadgets. I half expected it to crinkle like cellophane when I touched it. But hey, it went on without bubbles (a miracle, given my track record), and it actually covers the screen - which, shockingly, isn't a given with these things.

Night Shooting? More Like Night Trolling

The packaging boasts about 'seamless augmented reality integration' and 'night shooting function' - which is fancy talk for 'we didn't drill a hole for the flash.' I took some low-light shots, and let's just say my phone's camera still performs like a potato in the dark. The lens protectors are fine, assuming you enjoy adding extra layers of refractive annoyance to your already mediocre smartphone photography.

Should You Waste Your Money?

For $9, it's hard to complain too much. This is the fast food of screen protectors - it'll keep your phone alive long enough to regret other life choices. Just don't expect it to survive more than one decent drop. Buy it, slap it on, and pray to the gadget gods that your next protector is made of something sturdier than hopes and dreams.
